I’m not sure about you guys, but my LinkedIn and Twitter feeds are clogged up with the very typical “5 ways your company is doing social media wrong” or “How to increase leads by 140%” type posts. These posts will take you to a massive website’s blog, where you will be prompted to sign up for their newsletter or live chat with a “real” representative.
Sure the article or blog will feature good content, but I seem to be running into the a lot of the same ideas. After complaining about how junky my news feed looks and how dull most of the blogs were to my boss, he turned me onto podcasts.
Unsure what a podcast is? I was. A podcast is simply an audio file, either prerecorded or live stream, covering a specific topic. Just as I explained in my post How to Advertise on the Most Brutal, Unforgiving Platform Ever: Reddit, there is a podcast for just about every single concept or conceivable noun known to man. Unlike the Reddit post however, I am not going to actively search to find the weirdest podcasts out there. Instead, here is a list of my favorite PPC podcasts to date. Again, list is in no specific order!
For convenience and consistency, I will be sharing podcast links directly to Overcast, a podcast application for web and mobile.
The Paid Search Podcast
This podcast is another goldie. Authors Chris Schaeffer and Jason Rothman tackle tons of different PPC related topics in their series. Both Google Partners and Adwords management pros, these guys definitely know what they’re talking about. Jason and Chris do a great job of adding personality and humor to their episodes — something that really sets their podcast apart. With the length of episodes ranging from 30 to 40 minutes, these guy are perfect for your morning/afternoon commute.
Fun fact: Jason relates his co-host Chris to the “Kanye West” of nothing.
Featured Episode: Five AdWords Issues That Keep Us Up At Night
Featured on Cranberry.fm, these guys are exactly what their title implies — PPC Rockstars. Host David Szetela talks shop with all of the big guns in the Industry. With names like Marty Weintraub from Aim Clear and Marc Poirier from Acquisio, you know that you’re listening to content straight from the top dogs. With a different tone every episode, this podcast offers a great variety of SEM topics backed by qualified professionals. With episode lengths hovering right around a half hour, this podcast is long enough to deliver great content while being short enough to keep you engaged the entire time.
Featured Episode: The Adwords Red Bar of Death; Do’s and Donts of PPC Remarketing — Featuring Melissa Mackey
Art of Paid Traffic
Rick Mulready, a digital advertising guru and PPC specialist is the host of Art of Paid Traffic. Rick has cranked out almost 100 episodes in this series, guaranteeing that you are able to find a specific topic that interests you. With one of the smoother voices I have heard in a while, Rick makes listening easy and does a great job holding your attention. Consistently featuring industry experts on his show, it is just as easy to learn as it is to listen. This podcast’s episode length varies anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour. The variety in length actually provides a nice change-up in my opinion, providing you with the ability to select an episode based off your time availability.
The Missing Link
Ding Ding Ding, we have a winner of most creative podcast title. Jabez LeBret drops an episode every week on his podcast, The Missing Link. Why is Jabez’ title creative? This podcast solely reports on “ one of the most misunderstood and powerful social networks in the world: LinkedIn”. LinkedIn is definitely not one of the main conversation points in the world of PPC. Constantly being overshadowed by Google, Bing and Facebook, LinkedIn is like the red-headed step child. Jabez nails all the pain points that come associated with advertising on the monster that is LinkedIn. With strategies to increase your influence and methods on how to engage with your customers, this podcast is pumped full of useful pro-tips that are hard to find elsewhere.
Featured Episode: How to Drive More Traffic from SlideShare
More of a general digital advertising podcast, Call-to-Action features episodes surrounding the idea of “remarkable online marketing success stories”. Host Stephanie Saretsky touches on topics applicable to all online marketers, yet does so in a very personal way. Podcasts that feature personality and humor are always winners in my book. The episodes exhibited in this podcast range in topics, with a fair share being directly PPC related.
Featured Episode: Why Dungeons and Dragons Can Make You A Better Marketer
The Jumpstart Podcast
The Jumpstart Podcast is an excellent podcast for anyone looking to give their marketing efforts a boost. Touching on all aspects of outbound and inbound marketing efforts, the Jumpstart Podcast is the go-to podcast if you’re looking to expand your horizons on the marketing front. Again, we see Marty Weintraub and Melissa Mackey’s name pop up, as they drop knowledge on us via prerecorded audio file. These episodes will last you around an hour.
Featured Episode: PPC Talk with Melissa Mackey
Not only was this the first PPC podcast I came across, but it was also the first podcast in general that I had ever actually listened to. With a couple dozen highly relevant and engaging topics, Ad Stage’s PPCPodcast is sure to fuel your burning desire for PPC knowledge. The episodes in this series usually run around an hour.
