During my first week in PPC I was anxious to see my new ads out in the wild. I remember being told over and over again by my co-workers,
“Don’t click on the ads.”
Going to check out your ad placement?
“Don’t click on the ads!”
From then on this sunk into my thought process when doing searches of any kind. Even when searching for products, services or restaurants I would still dodge the ‘sponsored links’.
Finally, when intending to buy some New Balance shoes I’d been eyeing, I saw an Adwords ad offering a discount, "why not help this guy/gal’s ROAS?” Still for some crazy reason felt weird but I clicked on the ad, found the shoes, and made the order.
Now anytime I pull out my credit card for something online, I open Google, find the ad and make the purchase. I buy new Nespresso pods for my machine once a month, better believe I find those ads. Reserving a hotel room, let’s see who has the best ad copy.
I’m curious what other PPC analysts say, do you click on ads ever? Or do you go through the same hesitations?
