We have talked to a lot of PPC analysts over the last few years. Something we heard over and over again is, 'It would be cool if I could tell your system to automatically pause campaigns when my budget goal is reached and then have it wait till the next billing cycle to re-activate campaigns without me having to do anything.'
That's what AutoPilot does.
AutoPilot Mode acts like a safety net for analysts with concerns about overspending. AutoPilot Mode will pause campaigns for an analyst when the budget is reached and re-activate campaigns on the first day of the next cycle.
Details on how it works...
How does AutoPilot decide to pause campaigns?
The platform checks spend levels multiple times a day for every budget. If AutoPilot detects at anytime during the cycle that less than 3% of your budget is remaining, the campaigns included in AutoPilot are paused until the next cycle and you have more budget to spend.
When does AutoPilot re-activate paused campaigns?
AutoPilot will only re-activate campaigns on the first day of the next billing cycle or if more budget is made available mid cycle. Campaigns paused for performance or other reasons will remain paused until the first day of the next cycle.
Will AutoPilot alert me when campaigns are paused?
Yes. When AutoPilot takes action and pauses campaigns on an analyst’s behalf an email is sent with a summary of the campaigns that were paused.
Can campaigns paused by AutoPilot be re-activated manually?
Yes, the ultimate power is still in your hands. Let’s say AutoPilot paused campaigns because only 1% of the budget was left. If an analyst wants to activate a few campaigns to spend the remaining dollars they can. AutoPilot will not override this action and will let campaigns run for the rest of the cycle.
How to enable AutoPilot in your account...
Navigate to the budget page and select the 'Budget Settings' icon in upper right.
Read details, then toggle AutoPilot to 'Enable' and submit.
Notice a new column appears in the Decision Grid called 'AutoPilot'. Simply select all the campaigns you want included in AutoPilot by clicking the switch turning the plane icon green.
Last but not least
We highly recommend you include every campaign that is planned to run and spend.
If you have any legacy campaigns you don't want turned back on, do not include them, make sure their plane icon remains grey.
That's it! After a couple seconds, AutoPilot is up and running and you'll never overspend again.
